Andrew Hughes
Andrew Hughes holds a degree in Environmental Science and has published work in network mapping and trend analysis. He is the founder of The Pelagian Hypothesis, an independent speculative research project investigating the possibility that complex intelligence and civilisation could have evolved within Earth’s ancient marine ecosystems, long before humanity.
Drawing on his background in environmental science, systems thinking and network analysis, Andrew explores alternative evolutionary pathways, ecological complexity and the challenges of identifying evidence of ancient intelligence in the geological record.
His work centres on a fundamental question: Could Earth have supported an intelligent civilisation whose development was so different from our own that we might not recognise the evidence it left behind?
About the project
The Pelagian Hypothesis is an independent speculative research and creative project. It is not an academic institution and does not claim to have discovered an ancient civilisation. Scientific research, exploratory models and associated fiction are distinct strands of the wider project.
